Rules - Penetration
When applying a Form-and-Effect
bonus to an Enchanted Device, the Bonus is limited to the Magus's Magic Theory Ability.
However, the Magus may
apply any number of Bonuses up to the limit of their Magic Theory.
Device Penetration
is reduced in the same manner as Spells.
Device Penetration can
be boosted with the Increased
Penetration Modifier, +1 for +2 Penetration
Potion Penetration
is defined by the Effect Level, and is reduced in the same manner as Spells.
Potion Penetration can
be increased
by trading Lab Total points for Penetration, 1 for 1.
When Vis is used to boost
the Duration of a Potion, the Vis Cost must be paid per Dose obtained.
For example, if you have a Lab Total of 28, and brew a potion of Chirurgeon's Healing Touch, you would get 2 Doses. You require 2*4 = 8 Pawns of Vis to increase the Duration of both doses from Sun to Instant.
If you use Vis to boost the Lab Total, to obtain extra Doses or increase Penetration, this Vis does not count towards the Duration, and again any increased Duration must be paid for:
If the maga above wishes to obtain a 3rd Dose in her Season of work, she may add 1 Pawn for a Lab Total increase to 33;
she must then pay a further 4 Pawns for the Vis Boosted Duration of the 3rd Dose.
If you do not add sufficient Vis to boost the duration of all the Doses obtained, the Vis is evenly distributed throughout the batch, and so no dose will receive sufficient Vis and the Vis will be wasted. [Don't do this!]
Since a Potion "only
affects whatever it is applied to", the Effect design should adjust the Range
and Target to match this:
This is a design requirement.
The Lab Total to brew
a Potion can benefit from the Form & Effect Bonus, as per an enchanted device.
Standard forms for potions include:
Non-standard forms permitted
include:
In all cases the Potion only affects what it is applied to.
An Arcane Connection which
would otherwise fade and lose its connections can be made permanent by a Season's
effort in the Laboratory, and a Pawn of Vim Vis, multipled by the "Material
And Size Table" size modifier (but not the substance modifier).
