On the day of the Solstice, the magi gathered around their precious Menhir, and waited for more magical events, and recorded everything that happened.
According to their Charter, the Magi are supposed to hold a formal session of their Council at Midwinter, and to elect, or re-elect, the officers of the Council. This is also a time when they should plan for the forthcoming year. They also cast The Bountiful Feast this year, so that their growing community may be well fed.
With the steady increase in the size of the Covenant, even the increased fields will not feed all the people - much of the cleared land is scarcely ready to be planted this year (and the magi and grogs are still working to clear more). Having debated this, the Council agreed to spend the Vis to cast the Ritual Bountiful Feast to increase the yields of all fields planted.
Magus Joachus is the only one who could handle the full VII pawns of Herbam Vis, and so he must cast the spell, from the casting copy text.
On the appointed day specified by the spell itself, the day after the Midwinter Solstice, all gathered to watch him intone from the text - three-and-a-half hours later, seven pawns of Vis, and complete exhaustion of the Magus, the spell was cast successfully!
Joach collapsed (with minor wounds from the stress of the great spell), and was taken off to be cared for by La Doctora Jimena. (He was fine by the next day.)
In the Peat Bogs on the tops of the Landes du Mené, there are ancient pools of dark water, hidden beneath deceptive coverings of floating moss. Deep within these pools, lie the bodies of ancient warriors, or perhaps pagan sacrifices, preserved against time by the bitter waters. Sometimes, parts of these may be dislodged, and rise to the surface: if gathered and returned to the Covenant, Corpus Vis may be extracted from the remains.
A year ago, Speculor was sent on a Vis Hunt, and spent a whole season making a punt float above the ground as he traversed up and down the bogs, which lie to the south-west of the Covenant.
This year, they have the wonderful Vis Detection Wand, so that a party of Grogs may be sent out in place of a Magus (who may then perform more useful tasks in their Laboratory)...
